Why I Don’t Talk About Weight Loss (And What I Focus on Instead)

Calling All Nottingham Women!

If you’ve been scrolling through my content, you might have noticed something unusual for a personal trainer: I don’t talk about weight loss. Not in the way you’re used to seeing, at least. No before-and-after photos, no calorie obsession, no “drop a dress size” promises.

And that’s deliberate

If you’re a woman over 40 in Nottingham who’s tired of the same old weight loss rhetoric, this one’s for you. Let’s talk about why I take a different approach—and what I focus on instead.

The Problem with Weight Loss Culture

For years, we’ve been told that shrinking our bodies is the ultimate health goal. Every January, the diets start rolling in. Every summer, we’re hit with the “get bikini-body ready” messaging. And if you’ve been through perimenopause or menopause, you’ve probably noticed that all those old tricks stop working—because your body is changing, and frankly, it has different priorities now. And did they ever really work anyway? Have you always felt not good enough, moving between triumph at restricting yourself so much and shame when you return to living “normally”?

The truth is, weight loss doesn’t necessarily mean better health, more energy, or greater confidence. In fact, obsessing over the scale can make you feel trapped in a cycle of restriction, guilt, and frustration. Then menopause throws a curveball into the mix; leaving you more tired, experiencing changes that make everything so much harder. Plus, the brain protective function or oestrogen and progesterone have decreased so you are even MORE critical of yourself.

And I’m not here for that.

What I Focus on Instead

I work with people over 40 who are navigating perimenopause, menopause, and the energy dips plunges that come with it. My coaching isn’t about making you smaller-it’s about making you stronger, more confident, and more energised. Here’s what really matters:

More strength and muscle – Because muscle is your metabolism’s best friend, protects your bones, and makes everyday life easier.

Balanced hormones – Through movement, nutrition, and lifestyle shifts that actually help with fatigue, brain fog, and mood swings.

More energy – Because what’s the point of being a smaller size if you’re still exhausted all the time?

Feeling good in your body – Not because you’ve punished it into submission, but because you’ve learned to fuel, move, and respect it.
